Megan Sturdivant
- PhD Program
Spring 2025 Winner
Megan’s teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that every student is unique and brings irreplaceable contributions to the classroom. Her goal is not only for students to master course content but to feel empowered by their learning and inspired to make meaningful contributions in their future careers and communities. She embraces a student-focused curriculum and values reciprocal learning, recognizing that she learns as much from her students as they do from her.
To bridge theory and practice, Megan incorporates real-world applications into her teaching. She begins each chapter with discussion questions that spark critical thinking and peer exchange, and she draws on her clinical experience to contextualize lessons. Through case studies and simulations, students practice applying course concepts in professional settings, building confidence and enthusiasm for their future roles. Her emphasis on practical learning ensures students leave her class prepared to make a difference beyond the academic environment.
Megan also implements Universal Design for Learning to support diverse learners. She offers multiple modalities—videos, interactive reviews, and hands-on activities—to create an equitable and engaging classroom. Low-stakes review questions help students self-assess and reinforce understanding. By fostering a collaborative and welcoming learning community, Megan encourages open dialogue and intellectual curiosity. Her classroom becomes a safe space where students feel comfortable, supported, and motivated to grow both academically and personally.
What Students Say
It doesn’t matter what lesson plan is on the agenda, the responsiveness of the group, or what is going on beyond the classroom, she shows up and does so with an eagerness to teach those entrusted to her. Professor Sturdivant not only gave me a deeper knowledge and love for the world of Speech Language Pathology but she also lived out the difference-making profession that it is in all avenues.
