Pursuing a PhD in Social Work
Courtney Haworth (she/her) received her Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies with minors in Biblical Languages and Psychology from Southwest Baptist University (SBU) in 2016. She then completed her Master of Social Work and Master of Divinity from Baylor University’s Diana R. Garland School of Social Work and George W. Truett Theological Seminary in 2020.
During my time at Southwest Baptist University, not only did I establish life-long friendships and grow as an individual, but I discovered a passion for the unique intersection of faith and education. Throughout my time as a Biblical Studies major at SBU, I had the opportunity to learn from professors who were not only academic scholars, but also faithful followers of Christ. I learned how to wrestle with difficult questions, think critically, and open my mind to new ways of thinking. And because of people like Dr. Rodney Reeves, I was reminded of the faithfulness and love of Christ every day I went to class. SBU is where I was supported and encouraged to attend seminary, which led me to Truett. I have changed and grown immensely since I completed undergrad, but I will always be grateful for the foundation I established at SBU that supported me through seminary and my MSW, and still supports my work today.
