Beatrice N. Ruiz
PhD Program

Beatrice Ruiz’s research focuses on creative achievement and creative education. Throughout her doctoral program, she has made significant strides in this field, including publishing a first-author article, winning several research competitions, applying for a grant, and presenting her work at national and international conferences.
Her research includes studies on the relationship between attention control and creative achievement, modeling the Creative Achievement Questionnaire (CAQ) using Mokken scaling, and developing a College Creative Achievement Questionnaire to better capture undergraduate creative accomplishments. She has also investigated whether laboratory-based measures of creative potential can predict real-world creative achievement.
In the realm of creative education, Beatrice has synthesized past literature on teachers’ beliefs about creativity, co-authored an invited book chapter, and explored educators’ misconceptions about creativity. She has applied for grants to further investigate how school policies influence teachers’ ability to cultivate creativity in students and is working on projects examining the relationship between creative personality and academic achievement.
Beatrice’s work has been recognized with awards and honors, including the Outstanding Research Award from her department and first-place finishes in research competitions. She continues to disseminate her research widely, contributing to both academic knowledge and practical applications in education.
What Faculty Say
Bea Ruiz is among the most talented graduate student researchers I have ever worked with. Professors at other universities have commented to me that she stands out among her graduate student peers. She’s presented her research nationally and internationally, and her expertise shines a positive light on the work we are doing at Baylor. She is an outstanding researcher, a leader, and a servant.
