Pursuing a PhD in Chemistry & Biochemistry
UMHB created an incredible environment for me to flourish in my faith as I pursued my degree and explored what career paths were available to me with a bachelor's in chemistry. I was able to broaden my understanding of science and creation from interactions with my STEM professors and simultaneously match that study with a minor in Christian studies. learning about the truths of the Bible and relating that back to my studies in chemistry. It is uncommon to study these two topics together, however the way that they complement each other enhanced my education in a remarkable way, creating a sense of awe during my studies of science because I knew that by learning the intricacies of chemistry and biology, I was studying a reflection of the character of God in the detailed but uniquely ordered systems that make up the world around us. Due to the smaller size of UMHB I was able to build friendships with my professors, and in turn they were able to cater some of the lesson planning to incorporate a more blended aspect of science and religion in my classes. I currently serve on the Alumni Board for UMHB, and I am grateful for the opportunity to give back to the community that nurtured me so well in undergrad.
